Will GTA 6 break Australia’s internet?
Short answer: No, says NBN Co. Asked by TechRadar, an NBN Co spokesperson said the company has planned for big download events and is “confident the NBN network is ready” for GTA 6. Because of pre-loading from 10 November, NBN Co expects no single record hour, but possibly a record total download volume over the 7–8 day pre-load and launch period.

TelegramWhat NBN Co said
- Ready: “we’re confident the NBN network is ready for the increased demand”. Official
- Pre-loading helps: “good news for gamers and good news for the network”.
- Possible record: total download volume across the 7–8 day period, not one huge spike.
- Past peak: a big game download last year matched a record 32.91 Tbps peak, about 30% above normal, with almost 8 Tbps extra in the busiest hour.
Is this real? Yes, reported by major outlets
Who said it: An NBN Co spokesperson, to TechRadar. Sources: 1 company statement, 1 major outlet. Our view: Official NBN Co comment; not a Rockstar statement. Checked: 3 Nov 2026.
Tips for a faster download
- Pre-load from 10 November (digital) or 12 November (boxed code).
- Put your router somewhere high and central, away from obstacles; old routers may slow faster plans.
- How long it takes: GTA 6 file size and download times and the download time calculator.
