What is the PS5 trade-in offer?

Reported Sony has teamed up with Back Market, a site that sells refurbished electronics, to buy back used PS5 consoles. The two companies ran a similar PS4 trade-in in 2024. The notice reached US players through the PlayStation app two weeks before GTA 6 launches.

Is this real? Yes, reported by major outlets

Who said it: Sony PlayStation and Back Market (trade-in offer sent through the PlayStation app). Sources: BGR, Kotaku, Notebookcheck. Our view: The offer is real but only for US users who got the notice. The final price depends on your console. Checked: 5 Nov 2026.

For comparison, BGR says Best Buy and GameStop pay up to about $275, and GameStop pays in store credit.

Why this matters for GTA 6

GTA 6 is only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch on 19 November. Some players are selling an old PS5 to put the money toward a PS5 Pro. Before you trade in, move your saves and remember GTA 6 needs about 210 GB of space. See GTA 6 on PS5 Pro.
