Trailer 2 explained: the story

Trailer 1 opened with Lucia in prison. Trailer 2 picks up from there. It opens with Lucia walking out of the Leonida Penitentiary and Jason waiting for her. From there it plays like a short film about the two of them: falling for each other, partying, working jobs and finally running from the law.

Rockstar’s own summary sets up the plot. Jason and Lucia know the odds are against them. When an easy score goes wrong, they end up on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state of Leonida. To survive, they need each other more than ever.

This was the first trailer to show both leads clearly. Rockstar confirmed both are playable, which makes Lucia the first playable female lead in a mainline GTA story.

Scene by scene: what Trailer 2 shows

The release. Lucia leaves prison, and Jason is waiting with the car.
Jason’s work in the Keys. A montage of Jason collecting money and doing jobs for local dealers. This matches his official profile: ex-Army, working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys.
The supporting cast. Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder all appear. See every character.
Vice City nightlife. Clubs, beach crowds and a lot of neon. Rockstar used the trailer to show how busy the city is.
The rest of Leonida. The swamps of Grassrivers, the Leonida Keys, the boardwalk of Port Gellhorn and the northern backcountry.
Heists and chases. Shootouts, a helicopter chase and the pair on the run with police closing in.

The music

Most of the trailer runs to “Hot Together”, the 1986 single by The Pointer Sisters. During a driving montage you can also hear short clips of other tracks on the in-game radio, including Wang Chung’s “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” and Tammy Wynette’s “Talkin’ to Myself Again”. Streams of “Hot Together” jumped sharply the same week, just as Tom Petty’s song did after Trailer 1.

What Trailer 2 means for you

Trailer 2 is still the best single video for understanding who Jason and Lucia are. If you only have three minutes, watch this one. The 26-minute Extended Look shows much more gameplay, and the Launch Trailer is the most recent.

The game is out on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check the price in your country and when it unlocks where you live.
