Roblox braces for a GTA 6 “modest headwind”

Short answer: Roblox told investors on 29 October that its holiday-quarter guidance includes a “modest headwind” from GTA 6’s release. It expects Q4 bookings to fall 10% to 15% year over year, but says it has little data to size GTA 6’s impact.

Update (30 Oct 2026): Roblox shares fell

  • Yahoo Finance reports Roblox stock sank about 14% after the soft Q4 bookings guidance, in which the CFO flagged GTA 6 as a “modest headwind”.

Sources: Yahoo Finance

On its Q3 2026 earnings call, Roblox CFO Naveen Chopra said the company expects Q4 bookings to decline 10% to 15% year over year, and that the guidance “does build in a modest headwind from the release of GTA in the quarter”.

He added that Roblox has “limited data” to size the impact. Asked for a comparison, he said there are few similar launches to learn from, that GTA 6 targets a “pretty different demo” from Roblox’s audience, and that it is a console-only release.

Is this real? Yes, confirmed by an official source

Who said it: Roblox CFO Naveen Chopra and CEO David Baszucki on Roblox’s Q3 2026 earnings call. Sources: Earnings call transcript on Yahoo Finance, Seeking Alpha. Our view: this is Roblox’s own guidance, not Rockstar’s. Roblox stresses it is a cautious estimate. Checked: 30 Oct 2026.

Why a GTA launch matters to Roblox

  • GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026, in the middle of the holiday quarter, when play time and spending usually peak.
  • Roblox is pushing to grow its 18-and-over audience, the group most likely to spend time on GTA 6.
  • CEO David Baszucki said big games “create cultural moments”, and players often “lean into cultural moments on Roblox as well”, so GTA-style games could also get a boost there.
