Take-Two files 16 Vice City trademarks

Short answer: Take-Two filed 16 US trademark applications on 28 October 2026 for “Vice City”, “Vice City Leonida”, Grand Theft Auto and the Rockstar Games logo, covering game software and merch from clothing to lighters. It protects the Vice City name on its own, apart from the GTA brand.

Is this real? Yes, reported by major outlets

Who said it: US Patent and Trademark Office filings by Take-Two, reported by TalkEsport. Sources: TalkEsport, USPTO records. Our view: trademark filings are public records, so this is real. It is legal housekeeping and says nothing new about the game’s content. Checked: 30 Oct 2026.

What happens next

The USPTO usually takes about 4.5 months for a first decision, so examiners are unlikely to look at these before March 2027. Earlier this year WWE applied for “Vice City” for wrestling entertainment, but that application was abandoned on 21 September. Take-Two also opposed a sandwich shop called “Vice City Subs”. Take-Two reports its next quarterly results on 9 November, ten days before GTA 6 launches.
