What Sony released

On 2 Nov 2026 Sony released PS5 system software 26.07-14.22.00. Official The patch notes say only: “We’ve made some security fixes to the system software.”

IGN reports that this update came just 11 days after version 14.20, which arrived on 21 October. That one did not mention security in its notes, but IGN says it was widely seen as a response to recent PS5 jailbreaks.

Is this real? Yes, confirmed by an official source

Who said it: Sony (PS5 patch notes), reported by IGN. Sources: IGN. Our view: The update is real. Which firmware GTA 6 will need is not confirmed by Sony or Rockstar. Checked: 2 Nov 2026.

Why it matters for GTA 6

The PS5 homebrew scene has released jailbreaks for older PS5 firmware in recent weeks. IGN calls it a game of whac-a-mole: hackers target the newest firmware, then Sony patches it again.

The worry is piracy. If a jailbreak worked on the firmware GTA 6 needs, Rockstar’s game could be at risk. IGN says some people believe GTA 6 will need at least version 14.20, or now possibly 14.22. Unconfirmed Sony may push more security updates before 19 November.
