Cyber Daily reported on 1 Nov 2026 that prisoners in Western Australia are officially ruled out of GTA 6. The game is blocked under the WA Department of Justice’s operating policies.
A department spokesman said prisoners have a TV in their cell and can use approved gaming consoles and DVD players bought at their own expense, but “there are content restrictions on DVDs and games”. R-rated and X-rated games are not allowed, which rules out GTA 6.
Is this real? Yes, confirmed by an official source
Who said it: A Western Australia Department of Justice spokesman, speaking to Cyber Daily. Sources: Cyber Daily. Our view: An official government rule; it applies only to prisons in Western Australia. Checked: 1 Nov 2026.
How gaming works in WA prisons
- Consoles allowed: yes, if approved and paid for by the prisoner.
- How many devices: depends on supervision level, which depends on behaviour.
- Offline only: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and internet hardware must be removed or disabled.
- Content: R-rated and X-rated games and DVDs are banned, so GTA 6 is out.
This is a prison rule, not a ban on the game in Australia. GTA 6 still launches across Australia on 19 November 2026. See where the game is restricted in our Is GTA 6 banned? guide and the GTA 6 age rating page.
