Can you swim and scuba dive in GTA 6? What’s confirmed

Short answer: Yes. Rockstar’s own material shows swimming and scuba diving in GTA 6, including divers among reefs, turtles and eels in the Leonida Keys. Kayaking, jet skis and airboats are also shown. What Rockstar has not explained yet is how diving works: depth limits, oxygen and gear are still unknown.

Where you can dive: the Leonida Keys

Rockstar describes the Leonida Keys as a tropical island chain with some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in America. Its official screenshots show divers on the sea floor with sea turtles, eels, coral and schools of fish. That makes the Keys the best bet for diving spots when the game comes out.

Water is everywhere else too. Vice City has beaches and canals, and Grassrivers is a swamp area full of airboats and alligators.

How diving will probably work

Rockstar has not shown the controls or rules yet. Here is what past games suggest, so you know what to expect. None of this is confirmed for GTA 6.

  • GTA 5: every character could swim and dive. A blue oxygen bar drained underwater, and scuba gear let you stay down with no limit.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Arthur could swim on the surface but could not dive at all. Rockstar tunes water to each game.

Because GTA 6 already shows divers in official screenshots, it looks closer to GTA 5 than to RDR2. Whether there is an oxygen bar, lung-capacity skill or underwater collectibles is still unknown.

We will update this page with the exact rules when the game is out on 19 November 2026.

Other things to do on the water

  • Kayaking along rivers and canals
  • Jet skis and boats
  • Airboats in the swamps
  • Fishing (see all side activities)
  • Sunbathing on Vice City beaches

Previews also show swimming with dolphins. Rockstar also told Game Informer that the ocean has several species of sharks, whales, rays, turtles and jellyfish, and scuba diving uses specialised gear.
