Can you play GTA 6 offline? And do you need PS Plus?

Short answer: Yes, the story can be played offline, and you don’t need PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core. The PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as a 1-player game with offline play enabled, and Rockstar calls it a single-player experience. You do need the internet once: to download it (boxed copies are codes) and to activate the licence. Online multiplayer isn’t in the game at launch.

Tips if your internet is slow or limited

Preload from 12 November 2026 so the big download is done before launch. See the file size.
Set your console as your primary PS5 or home Xbox so the licence works without a connection.
Day-one patches will also need a download.

What about GTA Online?

Online play will need PS Plus or Game Pass Core, like GTA Online today. But GTA 6 has no online mode at launch. See when GTA 6 Online is coming.
