GTA 6 physical copy has no disc: what’s in the box

The key facts

Why buy the box at all?

• You can buy it from shops, use store credit or get a deal or a bundle.
• It is easy to give as a gift.
• Some people want the box on the shelf.

But you still need an internet connection and enough free storage to download the whole game. Check how big GTA 6 is before launch day.

Can you resell, trade in or lend it?

Not like a disc. Once the code is redeemed, the game is tied to that account. So:

• Unredeemed (sealed) box: can be given or sold, as long as the code is still valid.
• Redeemed code: the empty box has no value. You can’t trade it in or lend it to a friend.
• Region: Rockstar recommends buying from a shop in the same region as your PlayStation account. A code from another region may not work.

Japan: the 170-day expiry

Rockstar’s support page says PS5 codes in boxes sold in Japan expire 170 days after the 19 November 2026 launch, because of regional rules. Reports link it to Japan’s law on prepaid payment instruments. Xbox codes are not affected, and no other country has a similar limit.
