Will GTA 5 Online shut down when GTA 6 comes out?

Short answer: No. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in August 2026 that the update cadence for GTA Online “hasn’t really changed” and that the company expects to support GTA Online going forward. Your characters, cars and money stay where they are. Rockstar has not said whether anything can be moved to GTA 6.

That makes sense for Take-Two: GTA Online still earns a lot, and GTA 6 has no online mode at launch.

  • Keep playing GTA Online as normal.
  • Don’t buy “account transfer” or “money transfer to GTA 6” services. They are scams.
  • Follow GTA 6 Online news for the new mode.
