What Rob Nelson said

Rob Nelson is co-studio head and head of development at Rockstar North. In Edge magazine’s GTA 6 cover story, he said Sam Houser was part of the game’s first idea and its general direction.

Nelson described how the two work together: “Sam and I will identify problems or issues that we then solve with and across the teams.” Edge notes that some of Nelson’s words were paraphrased by its editors.

  • At each milestone: Nelson and Houser spend a couple of weeks reviewing the game together.
  • What they check: everything from lighting and audio to game mechanics, tone and story.
  • After that: their notes go to the teams that work on each part.

Why this matters

Sam Houser co-founded Rockstar and is its president, but he rarely speaks in public. Some fans believed he was only a “taste director” who gives final approval. GamesRadar+ says Nelson’s comments suggest he is much more hands-on than that.
