GTA 7: is it coming and when?
Short answer: Rockstar has not announced GTA 7. But studio heads Phil Hooker and Aaron Garbut told Bloomberg that the next Rockstar game after GTA 6 will not take another eight years, because the engine, tools and team built for GTA 6 will carry over. Rockstar has not said if that next game is GTA 7, a new Red Dead or something else.

Is GTA 7 confirmed?
No. There is no official GTA 7 announcement, no title, no setting and no date. Official What Rockstar has said is about its next game in general.
In an October 2026 interview with Bloomberg, reported by VGC, Rockstar’s Phil Hooker said: “The engine, the tools and the team we’ve built during this project will allow us to do things more quickly.” Aaron Garbut added that they changed a lot of foundations for GTA 6 and are “not going to rip it apart”.
Is this real? Yes, reported by major outlets
Who said it: Rockstar’s Phil Hooker and Aaron Garbut to Bloomberg, reported by VGC. Sources: VGC, Dexerto. Our view: The shorter-wait promise is real. GTA 7 itself is not announced. Checked: 2 Nov 2026.
How long did every GTA take?
The gap between main GTA games has grown every time. GTA 6 has the longest wait in the series:
| Game | Release | Gap after the last main GTA |
|---|---|---|
| GTA III | Oct 2001 | – |
| GTA Vice City | Oct 2002 | about 1 year |
| GTA San Andreas | Oct 2004 | about 2 years |
| GTA IV | Apr 2008 | about 3.5 years |
| GTA V | Sep 2013 | about 5.4 years |
| GTA VI | 19 Nov 2026 | about 13 years |
Bloomberg compares the situation to Vice City, which came only a year after GTA III because the groundwork was already done. VGC notes there is no sign the next Rockstar game will come that fast. See the full story of the wait in every GTA 6 delay.
When could GTA 7 come out?
Nobody knows. Unconfirmed If Rockstar keeps its promise of a shorter gap, its next game should come well before another 13 years. But Rockstar may make a different game first, and Collider has argued it should try something new. Read what Rockstar could make after GTA 6.
Where GTA 7 will take place is also unknown. Any city you see online is a fan guess.
