GTA 6 vs Crimson Desert: Map Size and Graphics

Short answer: GTA 6 should have the bigger map: previews put it at about twice GTA 5 and three times Red Dead Redemption 2, while Crimson Desert is described as about twice Skyrim and a bit larger than RDR2. On graphics, Crimson Desert is out now on PC with high-end settings, while GTA 6 is console-only at launch, targeting 30fps at about 1440p upscaled to 4K. Neither map size is official.

Update (30 Oct 2026): Crimson Desert’s map grows with its first DLC

  • Crimson Desert’s first DLC, Charting the Unknown, went live on 29 October and adds the Great Ocean of Pywel to the east and south of the coast.
  • The base continent is about 9.5 km by 9.5 km (roughly 90 km²). Reports say the new ocean alone covers more than twice that area.
  • Some outlets now say Crimson Desert’s map edges past GTA 6’s expected size. Neither Pearl Abyss nor Rockstar has given an official map size, so this is an estimate.

Map size

Rockstar hasn’t given an official size, but previews based on interviews with Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson say Leonida is about twice GTA 5 and three times RDR2. Crimson Desert’s map is described by GamesRadar+ as twice Skyrim and larger than RDR2. On those numbers, GTA 6 is bigger, and it is also built for cars, boats and planes, not horses. Graphics

Crimson Desert can be played on PC today with higher settings than any console. GTA 6 has only been shown on PS5, captured at 30fps, and previewers say it targets about 1440p upscaled to 4K. Rockstar’s strengths are crowds, weather, lighting and tiny details like moving storms. A fair head-to-head is only possible after 19 November, and on PC only when GTA 6 comes to PC.
