Can you pet dogs in GTA 6? And can you own one?

Short answer: Yes, you can pet dogs. The Extended Look shows three prompts when you’re near a dog: PET, SCOLD and STUDY. Studying adds the animal to a compendium, like in Red Dead Redemption 2. You can also feed stray animals. Owning a pet has not been confirmed: Rockstar hasn’t shown a dog you keep at home.

Animals in Leonida

Rockstar says GTA 6 has more than 170 animal species. In towns you’ll see leashed and stray dogs, iguanas on walls and seagulls fighting over food. Further out there are alligators, flamingos, manatees and more. Being kind to animals can even count toward your Criminal Profile. See the full animals guide.

Will you be able to own a dog?

Unknown. GTA 5 gave Franklin a dog, Chop, through the story, so fans hope for something similar. Until Rockstar shows it, treat “own a pet” claims as a rumor.
