How many people pre-ordered GTA 6? What the numbers say

Short answer: Take-Two hasn’t released a pre-order total. Its CEO Strauss Zelnick called demand “unprecedented” in August 2026. Sensor Tower analyst Karl Kontus estimated that 89% of pre-orders are for the $100 Ultimate Edition and projected about 25 million pre-orders by launch.

Update (27 Oct 2026): Reported Sensor Tower’s weekly sales tracker estimates about 470,000 more pre-orders in the past week, for roughly 6.92 million in total with about three weeks to go. Its estimated split is 74% PlayStation and 26% Xbox (via iGrandTheftAuto). Take-Two has still not shared an official number.

What Take-Two has said

On 7 August 2026, Zelnick called pre-orders “unprecedented” but gave no number. Official Take-Two kept its full-year forecast unchanged because it can’t yet tell how many pre-orders will turn into sales. The next update is on 9 November.

Sensor Tower estimate (October 2026)

Reported Market research firm Sensor Tower estimated that, as of 13 October 2026, GTA 6 had more than 6 million digital pre-orders worldwide and about $594 million in revenue, after returns.

PlayStation: about 4.51 million (74%). Xbox: about 1.57 million (26%).
US digital pre-orders were about 148% ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II at the same point before launch.

These are third-party estimates, not figures from Rockstar or Take-Two.

Update 21 Oct: a newer Sensor Tower estimate puts digital pre-orders at about 6.45 million (about $630 million), still 74% on PlayStation.
