GTA 6 Has No Disc: the Physical Box Holds a Download Code
Short answer: GTA 6 will not ship on a game disc. The physical PS5 and Xbox box contains a download code, so every player downloads the full game (about 210 GB on PS5) over the internet. Plan your storage and pre-load early.

TelegramWhat is inside the GTA 6 box?
Reported As reported by BGR and Martin Cid Magazine, the boxed version of GTA 6 holds a download code, not a disc. VGC reported earlier that Rockstar confirmed this. TweakTown also notes that a game this big would not fit on a normal PS5 or Xbox disc anyway.
- You still buy a box in the shop, but you redeem the code and download the game.
- The PS5 download is reported at about 210 GB. Rockstar has not posted official storage needs.
- Without a disc, you cannot install part of the game from the box, so a slow connection matters more.
Is this real? Yes, reported by major outlets
Who said it: Rockstar (via VGC), reported again by BGR and others. Sources: BGR, VGC, Martin Cid Magazine, TweakTown. Our view: Major outlets report the box has a download code, and VGC says Rockstar confirmed it. Checked: 28 Oct 2026.
What should you do?
- Free up at least 250 GB on your console before launch.
- Use pre-load as soon as it opens, so the game is ready at unlock time on 19 November 2026.
- If your internet is slow, start the download early or use a wired connection.
