France data tax: €11.55 on a GTA 6 download?
Short answer: On 30 October 2026, French MPs voted 11 to 10 for a tax of €0.055 per gigabyte sent to French internet users. At GTA 6’s reported 210 GB, that works out to about €11.55 per download. It is not law yet, the government opposes it, and the tax is charged to the companies sending the data, not to players.

On Friday 30 October 2026, France’s National Assembly adopted amendment I-1358 to the 2027 budget bill by 11 votes to 10, with 35 MPs present. It creates a “tax on digital data producers”.

What it would mean for GTA 6
GTA 6 is reported to need about 210 GB, see our GTA 6 file size guide. At €0.055 per GB, one full download would carry about €11.55 of tax, roughly 14% of an €80 digital copy. Players would not pay this directly, but media point out that platforms could pass costs on through higher prices.
