You Can’t Speedrun GTA 6’s Story

Short answer: GTA 6 adds light gating to the main story. Edge magazine reports that some missions only unlock after a wait or after you raise money, so you can’t chain every story mission back to back like in GTA 5.

How does GTA 6 slow down the main story?

Reported In past GTA games you could start the next story mission almost right away. In GTA 6, some missions need you to wait a set time or gather funds first, according to Edge (via GamesRadar+). Rockstar still lets players who want to rush the story do so, but with these small blocks.

This fits Rockstar’s idea that you can live your life in Leonida between missions. See also how missions give you more than one route.

Is this real? Yes, reported by major outlets

Who said it: Edge magazine, reported by GamesRadar+. Sources: Insider Gaming, Dexerto. Our view: From Rockstar’s Edge preview; exact wait times are not known yet. Checked: 29 Oct 2026.
