Fox News GTA 6 segment sparks backlash

What happened

Fox News discussed GTA 6 on Fox & Friends Weekend. IBTimes UK says the segment aired on 18 October, and clips of it went viral on X around 24 October.

• The game was described with words like “anarchy” and “debauchery”, pointing to its crime and adult themes.
• Some on the panel worried about violent games and young players. Others said it is up to parents to decide what their children play.
• A remark that people over 40 should get a job instead of playing video games became the main talking point.
• The panel also joked that modern games seem to run on anything, even fridges and calculators.

How gamers reacted

The “over 40” comment drew the most criticism online. Many replies pointed out that lots of GTA fans are adults who grew up with the series, and some mocked the anchors with lines like “bet they have a boring life”, which IBTimes UK used as its headline.

GTA has faced this kind of criticism for decades. The series is made for adults, and its popularity with grown-up players is one reason it is among the best-selling entertainment franchises in the world.

What this means for GTA 6

The segment does not change anything about the game. If you are a parent, check the age rating in your country when GTA 6 launches.
