Will Lucia betray Jason? GTA 6 fan theories explained

Short answer: Nobody outside Rockstar knows yet. The betrayal theory is popular because almost every Rockstar story has a big twist, and fans read clues into trailers and screenshots. But Rockstar’s own description says Jason and Lucia are “forced to rely on each other more than ever”, and its narrative boss called it a “Bonnie and Clyde-type” story. Below are the main theories, what they are based on, and how strong each one is.

What Rockstar has actually said

Rockstar’s official premise: an easy score goes wrong and Jason and Lucia end up in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida, “forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.” In August 2026, Rockstar’s Rupert Humphries described the game to Dazed as “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative.”

That is partnership language, not a hint at betrayal. Still, it does not rule out a twist. GTA 5 also let you choose to betray a main character at the end.

The main theories

TheoryBased onHow strong?
Lucia betrays JasonA rat spotted in the background of a Lucia screenshot (June 2026), and her lines about trusting each otherWeak: background details are not story clues
Jason is an undercover copBodycam footage in the trailers and one line in Trailer 2Weak: his official bio says he works for drug runners
The story is told out of orderLucia has an ankle monitor in official art but not in some trailer scenesPossible: Rockstar has used flash-forwards before (GTA 5’s prologue)
A tragic Bonnie and Clyde endingHumphries’ “Bonnie and Clyde” quote; the real couple died togetherUnknown: the quote may only describe the couple-on-the-run tone

Why the betrayal theory won’t go away

  • Rockstar stories often hinge on betrayal: Niko Bellic, Arthur Morgan and the GTA 5 finale all deal with it.
  • Lucia is shown carrying a gun in nearly every scene, and fans read her as the stronger of the two.
  • People love a twist, so any small detail gets attention.

On the other side: everything official so far frames them as a team. The Extended Look even lets you play them together, with the other one backing you up in fights.

A word on spoilers

After launch on 19 November 2026, story spoilers will spread fast. If you want to avoid them, mute words like “Lucia”, “ending” and “betray” on social media for the first weeks. We will not put ending spoilers on this page without a clear warning.
