How does the GTA 6 smell system work?
Official In Edge Issue 430, Aaron Garbut described walking into an empty house during a play session. One room had family photos of a dog; the next room had the dog, which had wrecked the place and left a mess in the corner. When Jason walked in, he recoiled in disgust.
Garbut said the smell reactions started as part of one piece of explorable content, then grew into a full mechanic that works in different places across the map.
Is this real? Yes, confirmed by an official source
Who said it: Aaron Garbut, Rockstar North co-studio head, in Edge magazine Issue 430. Sources: Edge magazine, Beebom. Our view: This comes straight from Rockstar, so it is confirmed. Reactions to good smells are not. Checked: 29 Oct 2026.
Will Jason and Lucia react to good smells too?
Not confirmed. Rockstar only described reactions to bad smells so far. Beebom notes it could link to other body systems, like sweat and eating, but that is a guess. See more from the same issue: everything Edge revealed, the map opening up early and the Jason Duval guide.
